Oh, thanks Terry ! I am extreme.y honoured ! :-)

Now I have to come up with a challenge, there's more to winning than a warm glow :-)

How about 'natural beauty'. It could be a person or something from the natural world, a landscape, any kind of animal from insect to elephant, anything natural. Whatever you like to shoot there should be scope for almost everyone to have a go :-)

I look forward to the pleasure and challenge of judging the entries.

Lets set the closing date and time as February 24th at 10pm GMT.

Have fun :-)

Steve :-)

Thanks Rob, I hoped the theme would allow lots of ideas and a good variety of subjects, it is going to be challenging topick the top three though ! There are going to be several special mentions too :-)

Since there is a couple of hours remaining for the Weekly Challenge, I thought it would be nice to pop in another entry. Hope you Like.

This little piece of natural beauty was taken as part of a personal project, where I try to use a painting or record cover, and try to reproduce it using photography only. No post processing other than framing is permitted. The particular piece is called Water Lilies, and was inspired by one of the greatest Impressionists of our time Claude Monet.

I posted the following earlier, but possibly in the wrong place ? So copying it here hoping everyone finds it :-)

First of all well done all who entered, there really were some great entries, all had something going for them :-)

I'd like to give a few images an honourable mention before announcing the winners.

Beverley's thistle and hoverfly, I am not always a fan of frames either, but this worked well, I would have liked to see the thistle flower a little further left though.

Scott's Jocko Falls I like very much, had there been a few rays of sunlight streaming through it would have been stunning. But being in the right place at the right time is far from easy.

The lighting and execution of both of Napoleon's shots were very impressive and nearly made it in to the top three.

Again Michael's Sand, Sea and Sky almost made the top three, had the horizon been off centre it might well have done.

Rob's mountain scenes are both very impressive and again came very close.

TooMM's shot of the whales I really like, the slightly sloping horizon just took the edge off it for me, easily corrected in photoshop or similar though :-)

The colours in the shot of the Swallowtail butterfly on the buddleia in William's shot are great, I just wish the butterfly had given you a slightly better angle, but you did well to get it :-)

Now, for the big three :-)

3rd place goes to Terry's Wheatfield, I love the painterly effect, it is a very memorable image. I would have liked to see just a bit more detail in the hedgerows. If you have photoshop there's a 'shadow/highlight' tool which is good for opening shadows up a little.

2nd place goes to Fernley for his shot of the Blue Tit in the apple tree. It looks just  slightly oversharpened, but this could be due to down sizing the image for entry in the challenge. Otherwise a very lovely spring image.

1st place for me is Glenn Smith's sunset over the coast. Focus throughout is spot on, great colours, foreground and middle distance sunjects, lovely cloud formations in the sky. There's something of interest in the whole frame and it all works well together. The vertical framing suits it so well too. Well done Glenn :-) Over to you for the next challenge ! :-)

Steve :-)
