Hi, I like to photograph nature and animals. I find that my camera is very slow at storing the pictures on the CF card and I can't get a lot of consecutive shot quickly. It's important for me to take quick shots, especially went shooting wild life.

My camera is a Canon XSi and my CF card is an OPTIMA PNY.

Do you know if this card is know for being slow? What do you recommend I use?

Thanks
Eric

I think Sandisk cards are good, so are Lexar.  There are many different versions of cards, old designs are slower. With every version of camera I have ended up purchasing larger, faster CF cards to meet the needs of the new camera.  I keep the old cards as spare capacity.  They don't write as fast so they have trouble with a burst but they are fine for taking single shots or short bursts with a delay between bursts.

Part B of the equation is the speed your camera can write to the card.  Check your manual to see how fast your camera can write to the card, then get a good brand of card with that speed rating.  Unless you are going to upgrade to a new camera that also takes CF cards, getting a card that is faster than your camera can use is a waste of money.  On the other side, getting a card that is slower than your camera's write speed is a waste of time as the camera's processor will introduce wait states until the card is ready for the next write.

My SDHC cards are all Panasonic class 10 cards.  So far they have been reliable performers in a G11 and 550D/Rebel T2i.

Ive used Sandisk and found them really good for speed as i love wildlife photography also, but i have now had a faster camera at 7 fps. but a good speed card will help

Also remember in burst mode the amount and save time depends on the image mode for example Raw + Jpeg will shoot a sequence of 4 + a 7 second buffer clearing time.

5 frames and 7 sec buffer clearing with just Raw /

These figures are with the SanDisk Extreme III (133x min.)
